Peter Finney Jr., executive editor and general manager of the Clarion Herald, the official newspaper of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, will participate in a Friday panel discussion accompanying a screening of the film “Spotlight.”
Finney will join investigative reporter Jason Berry and a representative from the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) at the New Orleans event, which is hosted by the Louisiana chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and Loyola University.
“Spotlight” focuses on the The Boston Globe’s investigative team of the same name and its investigation into systemic child sex abuse cases in the Boston area by Roman Catholic priests.
Berry, an author and film director, is known for his award-winning investigative work into the Catholic Church and its sexual abuse cases a decade before the Globe’s reporting.
SNAP is an independent network of survivors of priest abuse who work to raise awareness about the issue and hold the perpetrators and their enablers accountable.
SPJ members welcomed. The event is free and open to the public.
